Hello sport fans and welcome to the 2010 FIRST robotics competition Breakaway. Breakaway is played on a field with 2 alliances; One red one blue, each containing 3 teams. The object of the game is to score more points than your opponent by kicking soccer balls into your opponents goals.

On each team there are 4 people on the drive team. A driver, a operator, a coach, and a human player. The human's player task this year is to return the soccer balls that have been scored back into play.

The game is 2 minutes and 15 seconds long and is divided up into 3 periods: Autonomous period, Teleoperated period, and the Finale.

The first 15 seconds are the autonomous period. Here robots move on their own programming. Robots can take shots at hitting either 1,2, or 3 soccer balls based on where your robot is located.

When the 15 seconds are up, the teleoperated period begins and the drivers take control of their teams robots. During the teleoperated period, Robots can score points by kicking the soccer balls into the two goals located on each corner of the alliance stations.

During the Last 20 seconds, The Finale begins. During this time, Robots head over to their respective towers and try to lift their robot to the top of the tower to earn bonus points at the end.

The scoring system is real simple this year: 1 point for soccer balls in goals, 2 points for having a robot hanging off of the tower at the end of the match and 3 points for having a robot hang off of you while you're hanging onto the tower.

That's about everything you need to know about Breakaway. Good luck teams and we'll see you at competition. If you would like to see the animation for the game, click here for the video(Note. Link brings you to new window) .
