Team History

The Holland FIRST Robotics team was created in 1994. We haven’t always been the Holland CHAOS; we were previously known as Holland Hot Heads, Team Phantom, Flaming Dutch, and the Holland Dutch. In the past few years, we have worked to refine our branding strategy by settling on the CHAOS name and designing a new logo, one that is meaningful to us as a team. Our goal was to allow each member to embrace the strong tradition of Holland FIRST Robotics, while still celebrating the uniqueness that comes from the new makeup of the team each year. Over the course of several weeks of discussion and team votes, we finally came up with the name CHAOS, which represents Creativity, Hustle, Achievement, Opportunity, and Success; the qualities that FIRST embodies to us as individuals and as a team. Septima Clark, African-American civil rights activist (1898–1987), stated, “I have great belief in the fact that whenever there is chaos, it creates wonderful thinking. I consider chaos a gift.” We also consider CHAOS a gift, a gift made possible through the efforts of our school, our mentors and engineers, our parent volunteers, and our team members.

Holland CHAOS was the original FIRST team In West Michigan. FIRST has provided the opportunity, and our sponsors have given us the resources to build a winning team and to have a positive effect on the community around us. The success that we have established over the years shows how we have become a more efficient and dynamic group. Our success is shown in the awards that we win!
